Seeing Double?: Charles Jourdan vs. Fendi & Givenchy

It's always very interesting to see how styles from top designers funnel into designs for other brands. While perusing a Neiman's LastCall handbag sale, I found these premier designer lookalikes. Inspired by a thread on The Purse Forum, I'm very interested in encouraging others to support legitimate, "screened" brands instead of purchasing fakes off the street. While perhaps not every fashion brand is attentive to material origins or working conditions (and if you REALLY do care about this, do your homework! I hope to learn more about where handbag materials originate by brand and also working conditions), I'd like to start and recommend that if you cannot afford to buy the original style of bag, look to legitimate and "safe" brands rather than buying fakes from street vendors (notably in NYC). I cannot stress this enough! I've done human rights organizing for years, but haven't yet focused on corporate issues. I do hope to learn more as I continue on my handbag journey!

Seeing Double

Charles Jourdan is sold in Last Call Neiman Marcus stores, and definitely is a bang for your buck!

Charles Jourdan Peoni Linen-Leather Bag vs. Fendi Chameleon Duffel

One of the coolest bags recently, the Fendi Chameleon Duffel, is absolutely stunning. While not a complete copy, the Charles Jourdan inspiration gives the bare aesthetic of the Chameleon but remains unique in its hardware.

Perhaps one of the most iconic bags, the Givenchy Antigona is absolutely stunning. The shape is not only incredibly structured but is also very practical in size and strength. This Charles Jourdan inspiration is a great alternative if spending $2400US is not your cup of tea.

Overall, I do prefer the originals to the inspirations, but I definitely encourage purchasing "inspired" versions by real brands like Charles Jourdan over fakes. I strongly encourage you do so, too!

Black Friday Bounty: Prada Ballerina Flats in Pink Leather

Black Friday Bounty: Prada Ballerina Flats in Pink Leather

What's more luscious than these pink leather flats? These delicate beauties are from my Black Friday bounty! For those of you who live close to great outlet malls, like here in Orlando, you may have the opportunity to hit up stores like Prada, Escada, Burberry, and Fendi--but the outlet version (i.e. Great products and great deals!). I'm not a super-fan of pink, but light hues like this are perfect.

Prada Ballerina Flats

These Prada ballerina flats are comfy and chic, while being discreet. Perhaps you can't tell from these photos, but looking straight-on at these shoes, it actually takes effort to see the "Prada" label. I particularly love this since it's first-rate premiere designer quality but one can only recognize it if they know the aesthetic of the shoe or if they happen to see the "Prada" poking out from the side.

Prada's ballerina flats are made out of supple Italian leather, and feel like a bedroom slipper, rather than something you'd wear outside. They're extremely comfortable and with care, will age well.

Woven Wonders of Spring/Summer 2013

Woven Wonders of Spring/Summer 2013

Look at these beautiful bags! Some of the most iconic trends of this upcoming Spring 2013 season are jacquard and woven prints and textures.

The classic Fendi Peekaboo bag is reinvented in a woven style, available in orange and navy. Completely iconic, this slouchy bag is beautiful and fresh for the spring (but can definitely take you through the fall)! Definitely a head-turner in either color.

Louis Vuitton put out a bright, classy yet funky line of handbags and accessories. They revamped their Damier in a variety of bag styles--mostly smaller top-handle bags that are variations on the Speedy, some clutches, and small square luggage-style purses. The pieces in the cognac brown are my favorite; with the perfect outfit (this being my ultimate favorite), it is appears to be a delicate piece with a dose of practicality, too. It's certainly big enough for an iPad, magazines and your extra essentials.

Marc Jacobs additionally contributed to this spring trend with his Marc by Marc Jacobs Mini Marc'd & Check'd Printed Satchel. This particular style also comes in a larger size, if the Mini isn't your cup of tea. Other pieces in his SS13 collection are vaguely reminiscent of his work in his Marc Jacobs line and also in Louis Vuitton.

These are just a few examples of this skyrocketing spring trend. See any other designers invoking this trend? Post it below!
